Patterns is a voice-first reflection app made by Kulphy Labs LLC. The app is built so that your words stay yours. This page describes what we collect, what we don't, and exactly where your data goes.
The short version
- Your entries live on your device, not on our servers.
- Audio is transcribed, then deleted from our systems within sixty seconds.
- We never see, read, or sell what you record.
- Analytics never include the content of your entries.
- No account, email, or name is required to use the app.
What happens when you record
When you finish a recording, the audio is sent over an encrypted connection to our backend, which passes it to OpenAI's Whisper service for transcription. The audio is processed in memory and is not written to storage on our servers. Within sixty seconds of transcription, no copy of your audio exists outside your device.
The transcript is then sent to Anthropic's Claude service, which generates the summary and reflections you see in the app. The transcript and analysis are returned to your phone and stored there, on your device. We do not retain them on our servers. OpenAI and Anthropic process this data under their API terms, which prohibit using it to train their models.
Your account
Patterns creates an anonymous account identifier when you first open the app — a random ID with no name, email, or phone number attached. It exists so the app can talk to our backend securely. We cannot tie it to who you are.
Analytics
We use PostHog to understand how the app is used — events like "an entry was recorded" or "the patterns tab was opened," tied to the anonymous ID. The content of your entries is never included in analytics. Not the audio, not the transcript, not the summary.
Weather
Each entry quietly notes the local weather using the Open-Meteo service, at city-level accuracy. We do not collect or store your precise location.
The website
If you join the waitlist on patternsjournal.app, we store your email address with Resend, our email service, and use it only to tell you about Patterns. Unsubscribe at any time. The site is hosted on Vercel, and we briefly process IP addresses to prevent abuse of the signup form.
Deleting your data
Your entries exist on your device, so deleting the app deletes them. To remove your anonymous account record or a waitlist email, write to us and we will take care of it.
What we will never do
- Sell your data.
- Show you ads.
- Use the content of your entries for anything other than showing you your own patterns.
Children
Patterns is not directed at children under 13.
A note on care
Patterns is a space for reflection. It is not therapy, medical care, or crisis support. If things feel heavy, you deserve real support — in the US, call or text 988.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will say so plainly in the app and on this page.
